sixcentz: what do you write?
stane: i write stane one, cwb. st33. i did 'sta' floaters for a while as well.
sixcentz: where you from?
stane: i am from queens and i went to high school in the bronx
sixcentz: who are you down with?
stane: now, i am down with duel, sphere, cro, and i guess the dbi kids like dead and vor. i used to be down with everybody, but in the late 80's i had a falling out with the whole city over some bull shit. i've since squashed it all, but the list of crews i put up are are quite limited now. cwb, wks, dbi, nog and i guess i'll always be associated with tmr.
sixcentz: who got you into graff?
stane: i have no idea who got me into to graf. i guess i got myself into it. i was riding the 7 train to the 4 train to get to school in the bronx starting in 1982. it was only a matter of time i guess. i know that jere dms was the first person i bombed a train with. that was around 1984. i don't think he came up with the dms crew yet though. he was just jere at the time.
sixcentz: what's your favorite thing to paint?
stane: trains were, now there aint nothin. i never got to heavily into clean trains. so the last time i painted a train for real was 1988, just like every body else. that was the last official year. then in 1993 i went down south with droma and robbed georgia and florida for 1000 cans in four days. so i did alot of pieces for a few years after that. then i stopped all together in 1995, and just re started 5 months ago. i'll do pieces wherever and whenever i can.
sixcentz: who were your influences?
stane: neo ris taught me to piece, cro ris gave me some throw ups and tagging styles in like 1985, and ghost kinda got me into hoppin turn styles and taking pictures of my shit, which is something i never did before i met him. good thing too, cuz i barely have any pictures before that.
sixcentz: what do you feel about graffiti today?
stane: graf today is kinda depressing. i guess the art aspect of it is dope, and it will keep going, but doing pieces legal is something i just cant get used too. i've done 6 pieces since i started my most recent comeback and they were all at legal spots in California. i still leave my pieces with some mistakes in them because i am used to having to get the hell outta there after you paint your shit. writer's now do there perfect fucking pieces because they don't know the fear of cops, or fights, or maybe they have just adjusted.
sixcentz: any good stories?
stane: too many good stories to list, so ill tell ya one of the first. 1984 or 85 we were doing the rooftop where Phun Phactory is now. only back then it was illegal. it was saturday night around 1am and we were all like 15 years old. it was me, taro (stopped writing that year), nim tmr, tame cwb, jere and nark dms. we finished our shit, and when we were climbing down, some car load of older dudes rolled up on us. we jetted. we wound up hopping into the nearby elevated 7 station, as we did, transit cops were coming down the stairs, they chased us back up the stairs as the 7 train was pulling in. we jumped down o the tracks right in front of the train, and ran that curve to queensboro plaza. you know that spot? its like one of the highest elevated tracks in the city. and the 59th street bridge highway wasn't fully underneath it at that time the way it is now. we tried to climb down, but as we were all screaming at each other, the cops rode the 7 train wit the front door open right up to us. it was saturday night and the train was packed with people who were laughing at us as they cuffed us and brought us onto the train.
stane: anyway. that was my first real run in with transit cops. when we got out the sunday afternoon , nim and i went straight to bomb the RR's at astoria before we even went home. we went back to and got the paint we ditched when the cops were chasing us.
anyway.
sixcentz: what do you feel about the future?
stane: my future or the future of graf? the future of graf is kinda fine art now. i am doing canvases as are most people and generally just enjoying something that makes no sense but i cant ever seem to get it out of my system. it has damn near ruined my life many times, and im down to let it destroy me if it wants. Stane cwb. rock solid, now and forever.
sixcentz: any shout outs?
stane: i's like to shout out al of the peeps who were down with me when i was getting going and whatever, cro, neo, ghost, duel, nim, saint, wes aka diego 127, jere dms, dos 156, ven ris (even though he may have tried to set me up....i never had a chance to discuss that incident with him), veefer, chama (i have no idea where he is), chino, and last but certainly not least, image kkb-wks.
sixcentz: THANKS ALOT .......
