sixcentz: what do you write?
sphere: SPHERE / KOOL SPHERE
sixcentz: where you from?
sphere: Queens NYC
sixcentz: who are you down with?
sphere: CWK KDM CAC TDC CWB
sixcentz: who got you into graff?
sphere: Originally I got into graff by seeing cats from my neighborhood up like Sur167, Rec 127, Saint Tmr, Ghost and Sin RIS..but it wasn't until I hooked up with Sketch CWK that I really wanted to get into things and concentrate on piecing.
sixcentz: whats your favorite thing to paint?
sphere: Metal.
sixcentz: who were your influences?
sphere: Sketch KDM, Mirage CWK, Shame 125, Kaze and Serve FBA, Skeme TNT,Gnome and Gem7 CWK,
sixcentz: what do you feel about graffiti today?
sphere: Being that train movement is dead and highways are gone..it's a little depressing..but it seems a lot of the veterans are getting their second wind and coming back doing productions. There's a lot more camaraderie now compared to the violent past of graff especially in the 80's.
sixcentz: Did graffiti influence the hiphop you produce?
sphere: Completely. I go about writing lyrics and flipping concepts like I do pieces. I keep the old school roots intacted..but with an updated formula. Hip-hop music is just like the graff game in a sense..There's a lot of dope shit out there but most of it is watered down commercial wackness..if you ask any real head in the game..they'll always reference the golden era of graff and hip-hop music between the years of 1983-1992.
sixcentz: any good stories?
sphere: There's too many to mention..I mean growing up in Queens especially through the 80's brought so many ill experiences it was crazy..everything from 20 on 20 crew brawls on the streets on Manhattan..kidds spraying mace and swinging razors..to having a trucker bustin shots at us while we were bombin the Cross Island..to high speed cop chases in a limo after doing throwups on this Chinese restaurant..to just lockin down street corners. Shit was crazy..but in retrospect..I wouldn't change a thing.
sixcentz: what do you feel about the future?
sphere: The future is lookin good..we're pushing the hip-hop music thing full force..been fortunate enough to be rockin dope venues from NYC to California with groups ranging from The Neptunes (N.E.R.D) to lampin with Gangstarr. I hooked back up with one of my oldest boys Stane Cwb..so now we've been piecing various spots about once a week..so the darts will stay sharp.
sixcentz: any shout outs?
